Srinagar, Jun 26 (KNO): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday joined the Youm-e-Ashura observances at Zadibal in Srinagar, where he participated in the Zuljinah procession and paid rich tributes to the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala. The Lieutenant Governor, as per details obtained by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), joined thousands of mourners in the solemn procession, marking one of the most significant religious commemorations in the Islamic calendar. During the visit, mourners presented him with a black armband as a mark of respect and solidarity, reflecting the solemnity of the occasion and the shared participation of dignitaries and devotees in the Ashura observance. The Lieutenant Governor also offered a chaddar at the Zuljinah procession at Zadibal, taking part in one of the central ritual elements of Youm-e-Ashura, which witnessed large congregations of mourners throughout the day. He also interacted with mourners and volunteers engaged in facilitating arrangements and distributed refreshments among participants, acknowledging the efforts made for the peaceful and smooth conduct of the religious event. Large-scale gatherings were witnessed across Srinagar, with Zadibal remaining the focal point of Ashura commemorations in the Valley. Processions, majalis and sabeels were held throughout the city to mark the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions at Karbala. Paying homage on the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor said the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) carries a timeless message of truth, justice, compassion and selfless service to humanity. He said society must draw inspiration from his life and uphold values of harmony, equality, and righteousness. He also prayed for lasting peace, communal harmony and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that such occasions strengthen bonds of unity and shared cultural heritage—(KNO)
